--Rosie May Children’s Home,Boossa

Over 1000 children were orphaned and left homeless after the Tsunami disaster on December 2004. Most of them are not given adequate protection and comfortable living. Already there are large number of orphan children in Sri Lanka even before Tsunami. The orphans are easily traumatized. There is no one to raise them. The abandoned children must resort to eating any thing. They are emotionally and physically scarred. The future for these orphans is a bleak reminder of lost hope. The department of probation and child care and Social services department are really troubled with large number of parentless children. This is an invisible and a huge problem in the country. To address this invisible problem of the country Dr Jayasena decided to set up a Home for orphaned children in his ancestral property. Dr Jayasena joined Graham and Mary Storrie from Rosie May Foundation in United Kingdom in creation of Rosie May Childrens home in Boossa in memory of late Rosie May Storrie. The Rosie May children’s home is a joint project by People in Need Foundation Sri Lanka and Rosie May Fund UK. It is a luxury home for 20 children which provide the orphan children a near-home environment. The Rosie May Children’s home is a registered project of PIN Foundation Sri Lanka and managed under the guide lines of Department of Probation and Child care of government of Sri Lanka. The children are allocated by the department of probation and child care of government of Sri Lanka. We believe it is important to provide homely care for these children who’ve experienced such a great trauma so early in their lives. We believe that by providing this sort of care we can restore their lives as close to normalcy as possible.

The principle behind the Children’s Home project is to provide HELP.
