--Opening Ceremony
Ceremonial opening of Child and Youth Development Centre was held on 25th March 2005, participated by distinguished guests . The minister of women empowerment and social welfare, Mrs. Sumedha G. Jayasena was the chief guest at the function. Large number of foreign volunteers and well wishers participated in this colorful ceremony extending their cooperation to community centre. Also present in the event the District Secretary and Social services ministry officials.

The devastating Tsunami wiped out the homes and livelihoods of hundreds of thousands of families leaving thousands of children parentless, homeless and displaced. “People in Need Foundation” a registered charity trust has taken the task of rehabilitation of large number of poor children who are displaced, homeless and parentless following Tsunami disaster in South of Sri Lanka. “ People in Need Foundation” has developed the new concept of establishing the child and youth development center in Galle Sri Lanka. It is a Children's Resource Center which provide the assistance in looking after education and health of the displaced children and youth south of Sri Lanka.The child and youth development center in Galle offers many services such as educational programs which includes Preschool program, Computer Training school for children, English Training program for children, Library facilities for Children and a free medical clinic. The child and youth development center in Galle have designed some Volunteer training programs and some Community activities including First Aid training programs which will benefit young youth from the south.l
Setting up the child and youth development center in Galle will render valuable services to displaced poor children and youth in south of Sri Lanka in this needy hour and wish “ People in Need Foundation” a great success in its humanitarian project.

It is a great pleasure to be at the opening ceremony of the Child and Youth Development Center in Galle for displaced children after the Tsunami disaster. This charity institute provides free educational needs and free health care for a large number of Tsunami victims in the South. This is a unique concept and exemplary work done by Dr Asoka Jayasena in his ancestral home in Boossa for Tsunami children. It is a very good example to the whole country.
I wish great success to Child and Youth Development center.

'Humanitarian Scroll of Honour' for Dr. Asoka Jayasena

A prestigious humanitarian award, " Humanitarian Scroll of Honour " was conferred on Consultant RNT Surgeon Dr. Asoka Jayasena, in recognition of his humanitarian work in the aftermath of Tsunami in Galle, by " Canadian Stance-After Wave" on March 04,2006 at Noel Ryan Auditorium.
The function was organised by the Ontario International Development Agency at Noel Ryan Auditorium, 301 Burnhamthope Road, West Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. Sri Lankan Consul General in Canada C.S. Poolokasingham presented the award to Dr.Asoka Jayasena.
He dedicated to draw up a long lasting programme for the welfare of the children orphaned by the Tsunami. Dr.Jayasena has set up a school in his ancestral home in Galle for Tsunami affected children living in Tsunami relief camps. This is the fist time, that a Sri Lankan Doctor was awarded international humanitarian award in recognition of his relief work for Tsunami affected.
